General Introduction
Alcohol use that have numerous adverse effects on health is increasing every day across the world's countries and it causes widespread social, mental, and emotional consequences.
Alcohol is a common theme in many branches of science such as psychiatry, sociology, psychology, public health, internal medicine, pharmacology, toxicology and also has an important place in forensic science.
All sectors of society have responsibilities in the fight against alcohol and alcohol-related problems. In this context, the need of the university support in both research and education is inevitable.
There are many examples of alcohol research centers on the world where national and international multidisciplinary studies and training activities are being conducted, prevention, and treatment methods, the social strategies and policies about alcohol are determined, medicine, law and education active projects are being carried out to tackle the problems associated with alcohol.
Scientific Research and Application Center of Alcohol of our university is the first center in this area in our country. Our center was considered appropriate by 17.04.2013 dated and 1534-7208 numbered decision of Higher Education Board and has been activated after publishing of this decision in the 17.04.2013 dated and 28621 numbered Official Gazette.
Professor Ali Rıza Tumer who is a member of Department of Forensic Medicine of Hacettepe University Medical School has been appointed as director on 21/11/2013.
Scientific Research and Application Center of Alcohol is located at the Forensic Medicine Building in Hacettepe University Sıhhiye campus and serves with Forensic Toxicology Laboratories in the Department of Forensic Science.
Aim of the Center
It is aimed to perform alcohol-specific pharmacogenetics, pharmacokinetics, clinical, experimental and epidemiological studies, training activities and to conduct national and international projects in this center.

Alcohol and undesirable effects during pregnancy (fetal alcohol syndrome),
Problems with the concomitant use of alcohol and energy drinks.
